Driving lasting change for the sector

In November 2022, the Hon Jason Clare MP, Minister for Education announced details of of the Australian Universities Accord and outlined the roadmap for consultation to create the most visionary change to the higher education sector in decades. Supported by the Accord Panel, chaired by Professor Mary O’Kane, the Accord will put forward a set of recommendations and performance targets that will dramatically improve access to and standards of education for all Australians, enabling the continued growth and prosperity of the nation.

The UCC is actively engaged with the Minister, the Department and the Accord Panel on discussions that will shape the future of the sector. Throughout 2023 there have been a number of opportunities to provide comment to the Panel. In addition, the Panel has met with the UCC on two occasions to further discuss issues specifically pertaining to university governance.

It is anticipated that the final Accord report and associated recommendations will be released in December 2023, the UCC will continue to work with the Department on implementing the recommendations put forward by the Panel.
